TEA FOR TWO

Oort is a duo based in Italy, formed by the improvisers and sound artists Michele Anelli e Nicholas Remondino.
Their research is focused on the, apparent, contrast between acoustic and electronic sound with a marked sense of composition in the improvisation.
The fascination for the animal souls and behavior rapresenting an important guiding light for their aestethics.

There is no longer any turning back is an excerpt from ”The Aphorisms of Zürau”, a posthumous work by Franz Kafka. The work represents a path without obstacles, a descending abyss toward ourselves, toward the roughness of our deepest selves that we cannot explain and probably cannot confess.
The individual track titles make up another excerpt by David Foster Wallace from an interview with David Lipsky: «The part of me that thought I was different or smarter or whatever almost killed me.»

“This dialogue between them sounds both genuine and profound; a sort of four-handed diary, reflecting throughout the natural moods, signs, colours, and spaces. Allusions, rips, bursts of humour and sudden gusts of poetry flow into each other in an unusual animation based on strings, wood, breaths and brass.
Musical stories that linger with you.”

In April 2011 Giuseppe Ielasi and Andrew Pekler met for a three day recording session at Pekler's studio in Berlin. In a comfortable atmosphere and with a minimum of preparation, the two artists endeavored to find common musical ground through their shared interests in sample manipulation, layering the texture and improvisation. Some months later Ielasi auditioned the recordings and then mixed down his favorite passages. To a few of these selections Pekler then added an overdub or an edit, but for the most part "Holiday for Samples" is a document of real-time interaction. Mixed and mastered by Giuseppe Ielasi and with cover artwork by Andrew Pekler.

A town square is an open public space commonly found in the heart of a traditional town and used for community gatherings. Based on this basic perspective, it is easy to notice how the soundscape of this living center could represent not only sonically, but also from a cultural point of view, a priceless document. After an open call lasted 6 months to send most interesting audio material concerning the theme of the “square” the samples have been selected and reworked in order to create an ideal symphony of all living squares all over the world. After some months a minor open call was done also to obtain photos about the same theme in order to realize a coherent packaging.

Javier Bustos vive e lavora a Buenos Aires dove è compositore, sound artist e insegnante.
